We are all aware that bees only appear at the beginning of spring, but did you know that the bees' have differing flight periods depending on their species? Some wild bees only fly for 6 weeks in the year! So it's crucial to them that they can find the nectar they need to survive the rest of the year. This another factor contributing to the bee decline: That bees no longer find enough nectar to survive the winter months.
Our job should be to provide as much diversity as possible in our gardens and make them as bee or pollinator-friendly as we can! You can do that by: having an insect hotel in your garden or on your balcony, providing a bird bath with fresh water in it (pollinators also need a drink every now and then!), and by providing a variety of flowers from which to gather their nectar :)
